Game Design

Inspiration

Our inspiration comes from the Pixar short film “La Luna.”

The story follows a young boy who joins his father and grandfather on a journey to the moon, where they sweep stars together.

Through their cooperation across generations, the boy discovers his own way of solving problems and comes to understand the meaning of growth and family bonds.

What we want to express in the game?(inspired by the animation)

How To Translate It To a Game?

The SON can split a big star into smaller ones.

The FATHER can move the stars to new positions.

All three characters complete the task and return to the boat.

Final Goal

3-Player Cooperation

Each generation has unique abilities, and only by working together can they overcome challenges.

Machanics

The Grandfather uses a gyroscope to rotate the moon, ensuring the Father and Son don’t tilt too far

—or they’ll drift off course.

Both Father and Son move with the controller stick, and pressing B lets them use their special abilities.

Father picks up stars and drops them onto pressure plates to open doors, while the Son can split large stars into smaller ones to navigate tight spaces.

The goal is for all three players to collaborate, overcome challenges, and return to their boat.

Moon Mechanics

Moon & Back is a three-player Unity + Arduino co-op puzzle game that blends motion-based controls with collaborative problem-solving. Together, players solve levels to escape the Moon.

About

Developed during the SFK x CMU Summer School, I co-designed the gameplay mechanics with a teammate. While I focused on Programming, my partner handled Visual Design. Together, we executed rapid prototyping and gameplay verification within one week, and the project received widespread acclaim at the final exhibition.

Additionally, Moon & Back has been recognized with the Gold Award in the 2025 Asia Trans-a Design Innovative Award.

Thank you Moon & Back!
